Palliative Care: Palliative Care: A Healthcare Imperative

Recent public opinion research shows that palliative care is still relatively unknown among the general public.  Now, more than ever, education for consumers and physicians is necessary to make a difference.  Dr. Meier will describe effective palliative care models in home, telemedicine and outpatient settings.  The presenter will also highlight the importance of access to quality palliative care for all persons with serious illness and their families; as a healthcare imperative.  

As founder and director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC)—a national organization dedicated to increasing the number and quality of palliative care programs in the United States—Dr. Meier has put palliative care on the map. In the last ten years alone, the number of palliative care programs in U.S. hospitals has more than tripled, moving CAPC closer to its goal of bringing palliative care everywhere.As part of her professional mission, Dr. Meier has made a career-long commitment to palliative care education, research, and advocacy

In 2016, Kimberly left her job at a local hospice in North Carolina, cashed in her retirement and created a new platform that invites everyone around the table to have open conversations about death and dying.  Kimberly’s stories will empower and inspire you to live a life less ordinary.  The presenter will focus on the importance of “Bridging the Gap” … getting back to the basics when caring for those facing end-of-life. In a world of regulations and restrictions, how do we keep connection our main priority?
