Episode 39: Dr. Debbie Parker-Oliver, Depriving Death of Its Strangeness

Dr. Debra Parker-Oliver received her masters and PhD in social work and currently works for the University of Missouri in the Department of Family and Community Medicine. She conducts research on end of life, hospice, palliative care with a focus on hospice family caregivers.

In 2010, Debra became a caregiver herself to her husband, David Oliver, a sociology professor who wrote, The Exit Strategy: Depriving Death of Its Strangeness. Together, they made YouTube videos and published blogs helping others who were going through chemo treatments and facing terminal illnesses. The couple were featured on the Today Show and many other well-known programs to help educate others about end of life options. Debra is currently writing a book on her experiences.
